For the Best

Image
 Tomorrow is the day
That I will want to go into hiding
To hide from the stares
Waiting for me to break.

Pushing back the thoughts
The feelings and memories
That the looks of despair
Bring back all too much.

I never do break
The attention would be unbearable
So I wait till the dark of night
When my tears won’t be interrupted.

You’d think it would get better
Be indifferent
But 18 years
Doesn’t change a thing.

So I will take the day with grace
Not hide, but embrace
I will tell story after story
Smile at every look and stare.

For the day isn’t’ my day
Not mine to wallow in self-pity
But to remember the best
Happy Father’s Day, Dad.

Secret Smile

With a twinkle in her eye
She set off
To live the life
That she didn’t deserve
But the one she wanted anyways
So she smiled her secret smile
while everyone stared in awe.

The Never-ending Mess

My mind’s a twirlin’
Tips and batters
I can see them dancing
Behind my eyes.

Not good nor bad
Mediocre racing
Of thoughts
That need some erasing.

Clutter
In every corner
Trying to push the nonsense
Thoughts aside.

The filing system
Exploded
Ideas, memories, and alike
Just laying out for all to see.

I need to regain some order
So my brain can think again
It took me a week to write a poem
And I have no clever way for it to end.

Please, oh, please, My Head, will you just clean up your mess?!

Free

You can’t break this
This pure happiness
It’s unmistakable.

Your tainted mind
Can’t touch mine
Just try and see

I don’t need you
That’s perfectly clear
To be happy

I just need to be Free.

A Writer’s Block Rhyme

Image
My brain is too tired to write
I keep trying to ignite
Some crazy insight
But I keep getting a red light
So for my delight
I am writing this out of spite.

Jigsaw Puzzle

Image
You tore it out
Tore it up
But even then
I picked it up.
Misled
Blind
Excuses
L-O-V-E
Those letters
Use to mean
Something
I yearn
To see
Or believe
As I sit here
With my
Jigsaw puzzle
The fullness of
My heart

The Phone Call

We sat around the dinner table.
Plates already pushed back.
Empty except for the remnants of peas,
That had successfully evaded the forks,
That were laid defeated across the plates.
Different stories being told across the table.
Bursts of laughter for no reason at all.
Everyone content with where they are.
Almost too good to be true,
And it was.
Through the laughs and murmurs of talking
A phone rings
Nothing to be concerned about
Until they looked at the caller ID
Someone said “Its Ireland.”
Everyone mentally does the calculation.
2 AM
Silence falls upon the table.
No one speaking the words that can’t be ignored
They answer the phone.
Short answers given
No one is breathing.
They put down the phone.
“It’s over.”
Eyes close.
The rest of the night forgotten,
Oh how things can change.

Tango of Flirtation

You make my heart race.
It’s been months.
But to no avail,
You have done it again.

You make me doubt myself.
Am I just weak?
When you come within five feet,
My mind just starts to fade.

Your presence is daunting.
Knowing the affect you have on me.
You speak,
But I can only focus on your lips

Memories flooding of where they have been
Every
Last
Place.

Your eyes look through me.
As if they know exactly where my mind has been.
Now it becomes a dance,
A tango of flirtation.

Frustration comes with flirtation
Knowing there is a line I must not cross
Should not cross.
The jury is still deciding

What if’s are being questioned
Whispering in my ear as we dance.
What’s the harm?
Just one kiss.

Jump, Leap and Run

Have you ever thought it wouldn’t all work out?
That it is all to good to be true.
You are just waiting until it all comes
crashing
down.
Waiting for the failure to arrive.
To busy to realize the success that’s already been accomplished.
Is it our fault or society’s?
Are we taught to always be on guard?
To keep the idea of failure in the back of our minds?
OR
Are we taught to strive for success and that failing is failure.
A mistake.
Where do we draw the line?
Should we be afraid?
Avoiding activities or goals because we are afraid of failing?
Have we become so ashamed to not succeed?
Shouldn’t we take some risk,
Get past that nagging voice of fear in our heads.
We are essentially
Waiting
To
Fail.
Another door is always open
But if you don’t jump at the opportunity,
Then it just becomes a door.
An incomplete.
A risk can be that changing moment in your life,.
IF you fail, you failed.
Move on and get past it.
Live your life without fear because you have already faced your fear.
So, jump, leap, and run.
