Do You Know Where You Live?

I know where you live.
Over between confident and insecure.
Your house takes up the entire block.
Monday to Thursday,
You live in the right wing,
Relishing time to yourself,
Until alone becomes lonely,

But on Friday,
You do a cartwheel to the left wing,
Where you are a superhero,
An angel by day, fighting crime by night,
You could conquer the world.

You say hello to a stranger,
Allow someone to invade your personal space
by sipping coffee at a table next to yours,
You make a joke with the barista,
Watch the sunset through your iphone lens,
Have drinks at a crowded bar with your friends,
Lead your group to the corner booth, you on the inside.

By Sunday night, You are crawling back to your hollow abode,
energy depleted, proud of your accomplishments in the world,
You went all out, had real experiences.

By the next morning,
you are back being unassured,
wondering if the barista laughs at everyones jokes,
Was the sun really those bright colors, or was it just a filter?
Would that guy you had been eyeing,
the one with the blue eyes and smile so wide,
have approached if your heart hadn’t gone silent?

You have pride in being a strong, independent woman,
but are you strong
if you can’t control your thoughts,
if your actions are based on the weather?
Are you independent, or just alone?

I have to tell you,
it is strong to know what you can handle,
to work with where you are,
it is an accomplishment to understand recovery,
You…I am a strong, independent woman,
who knows where I live.

Trauma

Wind waves pass,
Saying hello,
The house stays still,
Not wanting to play,
Ignoring the breath,
Staining the window.

Only the sound of time,
Remnants of moments,
That were once inviting,
Now covered in layers,
of distance and neglect.

A shell
Of a life once lived,
Etched with meaning,
Within its organs.

Trees are ever changing,
Waiting for a jolt,
From a storm or
An awaiting rainbow,
To bring a pulse,
Back into it’s walls,

And the wind,
Will come dancing through
As an old friend.

My flower

After all this time
My chest tightens with joy
As I go breathless.

Missed Exit

On the highway,
I’m in the fast lane,
But cars still pass by.
So many parts of me,
That I’m happy to be,
But I’m missing scraps.
You have to smile,
When your life is blessed,
Just out of respect.
Life is so fulfilling
Yet undeserving
If my heart is silent.

Witnessed

They started out sitting across from each other, but by the end of the hour they were sitting side by side. Giggling and enjoying each others company too much to notice the empty seats and deserted mugs of coffee around them. Her hands twitching nervously in her lap. His leg across his knee bouncing. The chemistry humming around them in an aurora that is invisible to only them. As it comes time for them to go their separate ways, they each keep avoiding the inevitable.

He makes a move to stretch his arm out behind her along the back of the leather booth. She unconsciously starts to tap her right foot as he moves closer to her side. Her body’s response to the excitement and nerves of what that move could mean.

Silences coming more often now.

They start analyzing everyone else in the cafe, a person’s shoes, what they are reading, a couple arguing in the corner. Every little thing to take the pressure off of them. Overlooking the perfect moment they are in. Two young hearts that have found a comrade for the first time. Hearts vibrating with the unmistakability of what is going to occur.

He smiles when she laughs, she blushes with a compliment.

She now moves to lean into his shoulder, he looks down and smiles as if they have sat that way forever.

She moves to sit up again but he keeps her there with his hand on her shoulder. She looks surprised but melts at his touch back into her spot. He reached and took her hand in her lap, turning it over and playing with her fingers. She watched for a moment before turning her head to his. As he leaned in and gave her a small kiss, their bodies were completely still.

People chatter. A child runs away from its mother. A girl is engrossed in the world that her novel is providing.

No one aware of the rare act taking place in front of them.

But me.

Suffocating

Why did God create them?

To make me cry at night.

The world is covered in a shadow,

And they crawl inside my heart.

Tingling in my fingers,

but no sparkle in my eye.

It’s a wonder that they are here,

in a place that is so sacred.

Tell me to hold back,

I already can’t breathe.

Black vines wrapped up in my soul,

Of all my worries and your fears.

Oh, Sweet Indulgence

Curls, rosy cheeks,

A mask so sweet,

When she speaks,

Your knees go weak.

An angel with a broken wing,

She seeks love’s sting,

Risks angering her beloved king,

Maybe she will just stay for spring.

Spring turns into summer, fall,

Her shining glory, dust covers all,

Soon she will be forced to crawl,

Her lovers, she will no longer enthrall.

Lonely in the world she creates,

She shakes her wings and waits,

Broken wing gone, leaves it to the fates,

No longer can she make it back to the gates.

Saintly mask led her admirers in,

Stayed for the mask of mortal sin,

She now has to live with whats within,

Here is the world’s smallest violin.

Lost and Found

It is all said and done
Silence sitting restless
Broken tears unnerving
I sit in total patience
Waiting—
For my heart to close
The pain to be lost
In a mountain of treasures
With the last stitch made
I can move
Silence dancing around me
Anticipation with the audible rumble
Building within the rubble of my life
Patience turned into determination
SCREAM—
Chaos thrown into the silence
As the world says welcome back.

How It Should Be

Sprawled across the bed
Hair mussed up from the pillow
Chest rising slightly as you breathe
Taken half the covers, caught around
Your legs, though the thin sheet
Doesn’t leave much to the imagination
Your arm resting in my empty space
When your eyes finally flicker open
They search the room for clarity
Before landing on mine
And you smile.
As if life is only a dream, my dream.

Distracted Mind

Spent all day thinking, dreaming

Of the ways that you can take me

under.
