Fortune Cookie Poem

Sometimes the world
Has a crazy way
Of putting you in situations
So that you can be surprised
Just in time
Of what type of person
You really are

Feeling Yes

Sometimes you have to say no
To the nibbles and kisses
Before opening your eyes in the morning
Making you smile before the day even breaks

Sometimes you have to say no
To the walk in the park
Love that is ever so easy to see
In the reflection of their eyes

Sometimes you have to say no
To the life you thought you’d live
To search for the person
With eyes that don’t reflect you

But stare in a way
That makes you feel the warm glow
Of their love upon your skin
So that you can sometime say, yes.

Hitting Pause

What a week!
Or was it a month?
Everywhere I turned
So many emotions
A business venture
A funeral
Late nights
Early mornings
So much joy
Yet so much sadness
Mentally exhausted
I never let myself stop moving
In fear of a mental lapse
Even in sleep
Wheels keep turning
Needing a way to escape
My world
So I thank you all for writing such beautiful works
Allowing me to take a few minutes
And take glimpses into your worlds
While hitting pause on mine

Unsettling

The cursor blinking on the glow of the computer screen
Egging me on to put something on paper
But it is one of those nights
Where even the longest of drives
Couldn’t shake this funk
My head and heart
Keep hitting roadblocks
Coming to no solutions
It’s unsettling
When my outlet of putting feelings into words
Comes to a halt
My vision
Of looking into myself
Finding what is wrong
Is something I pride myself on
Being blind
To my own being
Is more than just unsettling.

Not That Simple

Someone said to me today,
“How did you do everything right?”

I keep doing things that make me happy.

Simple as that.

I can tell you though, happiness is a full time job.

Now that you mention it, it’s not that simple.

A Writer’s Vision

Writing poetry in the dark
Allows for your words
To be painted across the
Blank canvas of your mind

As they trickle down the page
Only you can see
The path they are going to take
As they are so intricately picked

Behind each line
A story of it’s own
Folding together
To make up one great journey

When it ends, you step back
A smile upon your face
As you look at the piece of you
You just created.

Where will this go?

Who are you and me?
The bees?
The trees?
I am down on my knees.
Begging, please.
I have lost all sight to see.
Two peas,
In a pod that has yet to be free.
Try and reason with the black sea.
The thunder rolling out a middle C.
Ever so faintly you can hear our plea.
Living as detainees,
In a world without a key.
We just want to be,
Anything you need.
Till we can be an escapee.

The Reveal

Before you can move on,
You have to admit what went wrong.

Do you know how long that took?

Before the guilt-ridden feelings,
Stubborn-ness and anger passed,
Allowing my mind to finally,
Believe what my heart was telling me.

I turned myself into someone you needed,
The rock that you could always lean on.
I was being pushed into the ground,
Not being able to come up to breathe.

No longer a rock but a pebble,
Being tossed around by someone’s shoe.

All the sad and broken feelings,
The passive aggressive revealing,
Must seem dark,
Getting a glimpse into my heart.

But through the year of self imposed torture,
I knew my heart was still pure,
I still wanted to apologize,
For leaving you without your rock.

I just –
Couldn’t take it any longer.

A Heart Cleanse

You won’t think this is about you,
Because why would you?
There is nothing in mind,
That would say you were mine.
Who knew a heart could ache,
Even after it breaks.
The past is the past,
But the feelings still last.
So I will try to be civil,
Tell my head to give a little.
For I still think about you,
For a moment or two.
I mean this in the nicest way,
I hope, my old friend,  your life will be as amazing as you say.

Just Look Into Those Eyes

The sudden rush of emotion
Blood surging to your cheeks
Its like nothing else in the world
When you’re feeling something so sweet

You wonder if it’s true
Maybe your mind is pulling tricks
But when you look up into those of eyes of his
you couldn’t live with just a trick

To know that you are someone
That someone wants to know
Is something that can’t be taken
Or ever be mistaken

For we dream of love
Fairytales feeding our cravings
Leaving our minds full of hopes
And realities that aren’t quite the dreams

When our dreams and hopes
Fall from their high pedestals
We begin to learn
Love is not for the ungrateful

When that feeling comes around
We try to leave all skepticisms behind
Instead of questioning it’s motive
Just look into those eyes.
