How It Should Be

Sprawled across the bed
Hair mussed up from the pillow
Chest rising slightly as you breathe
Taken half the covers, caught around
Your legs, though the thin sheet
Doesn’t leave much to the imagination
Your arm resting in my empty space
When your eyes finally flicker open
They search the room for clarity
Before landing on mine
And you smile.
As if life is only a dream, my dream.

Distracted Mind

Spent all day thinking, dreaming

Of the ways that you can take me

under.

Into the Fire

Out of the heart and into the fire

That’s where you and I will retire

For we can never aspire

To be what we desired

I’m preaching to the choir

I loved you prior

To you becoming a liar.

Let’s Try This

Eleven on the dot
Words start flowing
Not a minute earlier
The lightbulb turns on
Time to come out and play

Thoughts start streaming
Try to gain some perspective
Have them go where
No woman has gone before
As if I have some control

But that is a laughable dream
When the words flow, they flow
They have the true control
So when they keep pointing me
In the same direction, I must apologize

I tried but it’s another one about you.

And Yet…. A Mystery

You are the page in my diary
That I don’t want to stop writing
The story that I want to keep re-reading
The fairytale that I wake up to in the morning

And yet…

I stand cursing your name to the heavens
You’re the definition of frustration
Impossible to not drive a person crazy
Visually picture your head with darts

Any yet….

You are still a mystery.

Out of Nowhere

Everything is so familiar
Like an ocean breeze
Smelling of salt, warmed
With the summer’s heat
As if you never leave
The memories still vivid
Mixing of good and bad
Heart and mind spinning
Lingering feelings of nostalgia
The last few weeks of summer,
We slowly divulge as the
World gets back to work
You were cold, but kept me warm
As my rose-tinted glasses
Clear, let me relish what’s near
As I dream of you in the ocean’s breeze.

Rose-Tinted

Even
You
Can’t
Get
Me
Out
Of
This

Sleepless Thoughts

I sat talking across from the person that knows me too well.

She is the mirror that I can’t avoid.

I have been fooling myself for so long,

I don’t normally get away with it this long.

Trying to justify my inner feelings

It’s normally a breeze to put feelings on paper,

But I’m having a hard time admitting those words.

“You are not that type of person.”

How do you ignore that statement?

They are words that seep into your psyche.

None of this makes any sense.

But I suppose it shows the truth,

Of how my head is truly working.

One last thought before I go,

I want to forgive you,

But I’m no longer that person

I’m the person you made me become.

I don’t know how to change that.

Embracing Comfort

To me
You’re just a blur
In a picture
That won’t focus
Giving a migraine
Of longing pain
That digs into
My one weakness
That is always
Looking back
Giving the comfort
To know
You are close enough
For me to go
Running back
To you
So I can
keep walking
forward.

Heart Always Knows

Sometimes when I’m writing
I don’t know who or what
My words are about
Like my heart is writing for me
Until my head can catch up
